It’s become depressingly routine in recent years to hear of murderous sectarian attacks in Pakistan during Jumu’ah prayers. Most often the targets are Shi’a. Today, the BBC reports that two places of worship belonging to followers of the Ahmadi religion were targeted and at least 80 people are reported to have been killed. No group appears to have claimed responsibility as of yet but suspicion is likely to fall upon pro-Taliban groups who have sadly increased their influence in Pakistan since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.
Whatever differences one may have with others on religious doctrine to resort to mass murder like this is just unbelievable. More to the point who is actually teaching these murderers to engage in these kinds of acts?
