In a very odd appointment, the Guardian’s US office have just hired Joshua Trevino as a political commentator.
Trevino became infamous a couple of years ago when he posted a Twitter message saying:
“Dear IDF: If you end up shooting any Americans on the new Gaza flotilla — well, most Americans are cool with that. Including me.”
Trevino has now written a blog ‘clarifying’ his remarks. The ‘clarification’ appears to be even more odious than the initial tweet. What is the Guardian’s US team playing at in choosing to hire this twit? The depressing thought is that they might actually think that Trevino’s views might help them strike a better chord with Americans.
Let’s hope the Guardian sees sense before too long.
