Richard Seymour at Lenin’s Tomb has taken an interesting look at the BBC story about a group of ten Muslim women who laid wreaths at the National Memorial Arboretum on Saturday and which the BBC covered extensively all afternoon.
Of course, this recent focus on Armed Forces Day (instituted for the first time last year when its name was changed from Veteran’s Day) and now the Muslim wreath laying could have nothing whatsoever to do with the widespread and growing public opposition to the pointless war in Afghanistan which has seen over 300 UK soldiers killed and an undisclosed number seriously wounded.

Inayat, instead of using weasel words about the execrable Richard Seymour’s “interesting look” at the group of Muslim women who laid wreaths at the National Memorial Arboretum, why don’t you come out and clearly say whether or not you agree with the despicable piece of garbage he has written about the British army over at his vile Marxist hate-blog, Lenin’s Tomb? Either you agree with what he has written or you don’t; and either you support the gesture made by these women or you don’t. You can’t have your cake and eat it.
I think it was a well-meaning gesture, however, for my part, I would be rather wary of allowing myself to be used as propaganda for an increasingly unpopular war.
Well, Inayat, I must say that I agree with at least part of your response: I certainly don’t want to see British troops dying in what I agree is an increasingly unpopular war. But God help the Afghan people, especially the women, if the Taliban get their bloody mits on the reins of power again.
I don’t think one is a justification for the other. Thanks for sharing the link Inayat, I found it pretty interesting and I do agree with many of the notions put across.
